wmeKit Sync

Terms of Service

Effective 2 October 2026

These terms cover WME Sync ("the Service", "we", "us"): the sync API, the wme-sync-lib client library, and the dashboard at sync.wmekit.com. By syncing data, using the API, or signing in to the dashboard, you agree to them. Questions are welcome at wazer@wmekit.com.

These terms supplement the main WMEKit Terms of Service. The WMEKit Terms of Service apply to WME Sync too, including eligibility, acceptable use, account closure, the disclaimer and limits of liability, and governing law (South Africa). The terms below add what's specific to WME Sync. If the two conflict about WME Sync, these terms apply. How we handle your data is explained in our Privacy Policy.

1. What WME Sync does

WME Sync stores small amounts of data for Waze Map Editor userscripts under your Waze username, so the same settings are available in every browser you edit in. It's free, run by volunteers, and not affiliated with Waze or Google.

2. Waze usernames and PINs

  • Only sync under a Waze username that's yours.
  • Keep your PIN private. Anyone with it can read and change everything stored for your username. We can't recover a lost PIN. If your username is linked to your WMEKit account, you can set a new one on the dashboard.
  • Admins may release (delete, with its data) a username that was claimed by someone it doesn't belong to, or that's being used to break these terms. If someone has claimed your username, email wazer@wmekit.com.

3. Your data

  • The data your scripts store stays yours. You give us permission to store it, back it up, and return it to scripts holding a valid token for your username, which is all we use it for.
  • Every script you let sync with your username can read and change the data of every other script under it. You're responsible for which scripts you install.
  • Don't store passwords, API keys or other secrets, or anything illegal or that you don't have the right to store.
  • Each stored value can be up to 256 KB, and each username up to 5 MB in total. We may change these limits.
  • WME Sync isn't a backup service. Keep your own copy of anything important: the dashboard can export all of your data as JSON.

4. Building on WME Sync

Userscript authors are welcome to use the API and wme-sync-lib in their scripts. If you do:

  • Use your own script ID, and only read or change other scripts' data when your users would expect it.
  • Tell your users that their settings are synced through WME Sync, and point them to our Privacy Policy.
  • Keep requests reasonable: no bulk scraping, load testing, or attempts to get around rate limits, PIN attempt limits or quotas.
  • The API may change. We'll try to keep it backwards-compatible and give notice of breaking changes in the API docs.

You're responsible for your own scripts and what they do with your users' data.

5. Changes and shutdown

We may change or stop the Service. If we decide to shut it down, we'll give reasonable notice on the dashboard and in the API docs where we can, so you have time to export your data.

6. Changes to these terms

We'll update the effective date above whenever these terms change, and give notice before significant changes take effect. If you keep using the Service after that, you accept the updated terms.
